Honoring LI’s Vietnam Veterans

The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and to “coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of Federal, State, and local governments, and other individuals and organizations.”  Since 2016, each active VA national cemetery supported this effort as a Commemorative Partner with the Department of Defense (DoD), and held ceremonies with participation from local communities.

This year NCA will participate in honoring Vietnam Veterans during the week of March 23 – March 31, 2019.

All national cemeteries where Vietnam Veterans are interred will conduct a publicized Vietnam Commemorative ceremony to include a wreath laying and presentation of lapel pins to recognize and honor Vietnam Veterans and their families within the community.  Cemeteries are encouraged to collaborate with other local VA entities in conducting a commemorative ceremony.
